Resuming safe services

You must wear a face mask in our hospital and clinics

This page gives an overview the ways we work to keep you safe, get you the right treatment, keep our staff safe, and let us treat our patients.

Patients and visitors—keeping each other safe

You will notice signage, one way systems, reduced seating, and directions to specific entrances to help keep us suitably apart.

  • You must wear a mask/face covering* and use hand sanitiser
  • You may be asked about symptoms or possible exposure to COVID-19, including where you have recently travelled
  • You must socially distance—2m from other people—while in the hospital

Clinically extremely vulnerable patients

  • If you are a patient who has been identified as clinically extremely vulnerable (shielding), you are responsible for informing hospital staff as soon as possible.
  • If your child is clinically extremely vulnerable, as parent/carer, you are responsible for informing hospital staff as soon as possible.


We offer face-to-face, telephone and video appointments. Our digital solutions improve your control over appointment processes and allow access to information about your care. You can:

  • receive hospital letters and appointment reminders by text message and/or email
  • change or cancel your appointments online
  • view your upcoming appointments details, including location and clinic information

Children’s services

It is safe to bring your child in for treatment at our hospitals. The NHS in North West London have produced a range of leaflets and guidance for parents, carers and people who work with children and young people on COVID-19 and how to access local emergency services.

Checking staff and using the right precautions

  • All our staff are asked not to attend work if they have any symptoms and they must have a COVID-19 test with a negative result before they are able to return to work

  • Staff moving between clinical areas, and between clinical and non-clinical areas, will adjust their PPE (personal protective equipment) accordingly—this means even if they work in areas with COVID-19 positive patients, they will not be wearing equipment that can infect you 
  • Staff wear simple masks in non-clinical areas (unless they can socially distance)

Separating patients with and without COVID-19

  • We’re experienced at dealing with infectious diseases and now COVID-19—our hospital services are designed to test all patients and keep those patients with COVID-19 and those without in safe, separated areas to ensure all patients get the right care with the right precautions
  • There are different zones in the hospital based on the patients seen and the procedures carried out

Planned procedures and surgery


  • Usually you will be asked to enter by a dedicated entrance, not through the main hospital entrance—this is best practice, and takes you straight to the dedicated area where you will be treated
  • In general, after a phone assessment, an adult patient will be asked to observe various precautions for a specified time, to take a COVID-19 test some days before the appointment, and then to self isolate until the appointment—specific details will be provided after the assessment

We have always treated emergencies throughout the pandemic and continue to do so. Patients are isolated, checked for symptoms and tested to avoid infecting others. Accident and Emergency (A&E) and Urgent Care Centre (UCC) facilities are open at both our hospital sites.
