Maternity research
We are committed to improving the care we give to women and their families, which is why we offer our patients the chance to get involved in clinical research studies.
Through research we can find out:
- Which treatments are most effective for women
- Develop the advice and information we offer to patients
- Assess what is acceptable to women in our care and where specialist support is needed
Our research is approved and funded by the National Institute of Health Research which means it is ethically and scientifically sound, and has the highest standards possible for patient safety.
Being involved in research is optional. If we do offer you the chance to take part, you will be given written information and plenty of time to ask questions and find out more before you decide.
Areas of care we are currently researching include: miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia, obstetric cholestasis, and premature birth. We also run studies in improving care in some aspects of labour.
Our Trust is among the most productive in the UK for maternity research—since 2013:
- 30 research papers
- 20 chapters, editorials and invited reviews
- Jointly authored the CHD pregnancy text book
- One of 20 contributors to the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines for the management of pregnancy in women with heart disease
- MBRACE assessor for cardiac cases (Roshni)
