Safeguarding adults and children
The Trust works in partnership with local authorities and the tri-borough Safeguarding Adults Board to ensure that there are effective safeguarding arrangements across the local health community. Safeguarding adults at risk represents the commitment to work together to make sure that:
- The needs and interests of adults at risk are always respected and upheld
- The human rights of adults at risk are respected and upheld
- A proportionate, timely, professional and ethical response is made to any adult at risk who may be experiencing abuse
- All decisions and actions are taken in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005—it is the responsibility of every NHS organisation and healthcare professional to ensure that people in vulnerable circumstances are not only safe but also receive the highest possible standard of care
We are committed to ensuring that all patients, including children, are cared for in a safe and secure environment. We do this by:
- Having named professionals in post who lead on issues relating to adult safeguarding
- Ensuring staff are trained in safeguarding—including at director level—and this is refreshed regularly
- Sustaining close links with external agencies such as local authorities and children’s centres
- Ensuring we are compliant with the statutory enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service)
#YouAreNotAlone campaign
We launched our #YouAreNotAlone campaign in May 2020 to raise awareness that, during lockdown, home is not safe for everyone. Our staff show solidarity and support for survivors of domestic abuse and our teams can be confided in and enable access to specialist support.
