• Neonatal intensive care unit raise over £475 on World Prematurity Day!

  Friday 17th November was World Prematurity Day and staff from our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital were in the hospital’s atrium raising awareness about premature birth and selling cakes! The team raised over £475 for our Critical Care Campaign which is redeveloping and expanding the neonatal intensive care unit to be able to treat 150 more babies every year.

• West Mid Hospital pilots new innovative technology

  West Middlesex University Hospital is one of few in the country to be first to trial a new technology on their general wards that could potentially future lives. This technology is a wireless monitoring system of patient’s vital signs providing medical professionals with real time information about patient’s heart rate, respiration rate and underarm temperature so they can respond much more quickly to any significant changes that may indicate the patient is deteriorating.

• A&E Redevelopment at West Middlesex University Hospital – Notice of temporary changes

  As part of the redevelopment of the accident and emergency department at our West Middlesex University Hospital, we need to make some temporary changes to enable essential building work to proceed.

• Strike action affecting public transport this week

  Tube station staff who are union members are striking today, Monday 9 January. Tube services are severely reduced and some stations will be closed until the end of service today. This means that the majority of stations in Zone 1 are closed.

  West Middlesex University Hospital Consultant, Dr Anjan Chakrabarty, received the Teaching Excellence Award from Imperial College London’s School of Medicine in recognition of all his hard work and efforts put into teaching paediatric students.

• 42% drop in new HIV diagnoses at 56 Dean Street in just 12 months

  Latest figures released by clinicians at 56 Dean Street show that 393 new diagnoses of HIV were made between January and December 2016, compared to 679 during the same period in 2015. This reduction may be significant as 56 Dean Street carried out a comparable number of HIV tests and hasn’t seen a reduced prevalence of other STIs. The Soho clinic operated by Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust accounts for one in nine of every new HIV diagnosis in the UK. In London, it accounts for one in two of every new HIV diagnosis made in gay men.
